Silicon Valley Chapter supports San Jose’s Veteran’s Day Parade

The Silicon Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross had a strong contingent of more than 50 people supporting the Veteran’s Day parade in San Jose on Sunday, November 11. The parade was a special one because it marked 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. Read more

Red Cross supports Fleet Week Humanitarian Village

San Francisco has always had a special relationship with the US Navy. One example of that is San Francisco Fleet Week (SFFW), which began in 1981. The annual celebration of America’s sea services takes place over Italian Heritage Weekend in October on the Marina Green.

Through its core mission of Support to Armed Forces (SAF), the American Red Cross has been a consistent and strong supporter of Fleet Week. Read more

Consider helping with ‘Missing Maps’ project

These maps have already helped save lives following disasters in Nepal, Haiti, Ecuador, West Africa, and Madagascar.

Each year, disasters around the world kill nearly 100,000 and affect or displace 200 million people. Many of the places where these disasters occur are literally ‘missing’ from any map, and first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts. “Missing Maps” is a collaborative project in which organizations, companies, and individuals are helping to map areas where humanitarian organizations are trying to meet the local needs.

The American Red Cross is a key partner in this effort. Read more

Red Cross celebrates its San Francisco volunteers

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (August 29, 2018) — The American Red Cross of the Bay Area honored 18 individual volunteers, a youth club board, and a partner association at its recent Recognition Dinner for San Francisco volunteers. The annual event was held at GAP Headquarters in the city.

At the dinner, George de Bruin of San Francisco received the San Francisco Volunteer of the Year Award. The evening’s other top honor, the Clara Barton Award, named after the founder of the Red Cross, was given to Donna Logan of San Francisco. Read more
